Archipelagogo Club vol.IV:

Teacher- Trickster- Chaos- Clay

Club-Night, 8 hours

English (ACA*Butler)

27.11

22:00-06:00

«Musicians warp and drag sounds, creating spatio-temporal bubbles of resistance. Djs sync, cut and loop, thus opening worlds for our archipelic bodies.»

Archipelagogo Club is a series of events initiated in Geneva, invoking the club as a long-standing sanctuary for racialized queer people. Whether performative, sonic, visual, fictional or theoretical, those nights insist on the richness and diversity of artistic practices emerging from the night. They mean to uphold the legacy, by using sonic technology as a tool of representation, narration and celebration for queer people of colour.

For its 4th iteration entitled Teacher-Trickster-Chaos-Clay, after the work of the visionary science fiction writer  Octavia Estelle Butler, Archipelagogo Club is invited to deploy its nexus in Bern with Dj sets by ven3mo, Soungou and KA-RABA, a hybrid set by nGblk, a sonic performance by ACA*Butler and a video by AuthessX.

Mighty engages in a variety of practices of sound and visual arts. Archipelagogo Club emerged shortly before both of the lockdowns in the last years. During the lockdown Mighty used sound sharing platforms for their project ACA*Butler, among others. At BONE_21, ACA*Butler will perform live and will also be installed as a sound piece. ACA*Butler
began as an augmented audio-book of the novel Parable of the Sower by Octavia E. Butler (1993) with the voice of ghalas and sound design by Mighty (https://soundcloud.com/acabutler).This dystopian novel narrates the reflections and spiritual path of a young Afro-American girl facing a violent, racist and sexist society in a world in total dereliction. Set in the year 2024, the work has a prophetic quality that has allowed us to make sense of our realities and transform our perspectives on current events. Earthseed: The Books of the Living, a collection of parables written by the main protagonist that lays the foundation for a future society and a different relationship to faith, operates as a book within a book. ACA*Butler has gathered these texts scattered throughout the novel to bring them to the stage, the performativity of these words calling for the transition to a live format.

Mighty (they/them)
is an afrofuturist DJ, producer, and party curator based in Geneva . Their visual and sonic research is focused on queer people of color cultural productions. Through music, they manipulate space and time, inviting fluid and mutating bodies on the dancefloor.

ghalas charara (she/her)
has scoured the musical and artistic scenes of Beirut, going from assistant sound engineer, to boom-operator, to technical manager. She obtained a Master from the CCC Research-based Master Program (HEAD-Genève) in 2018. Since then, she juggles her research and writing practices into curatorial projects and performances embedded in attentive listening and radical voicing with the aim of scrambling narrative codes and working out silent mysteries and vocal ambiguities.

ven3mo (she/her)
combines different genres to provoke melodic and narrative upheavals. She will take you in a soaring and rhythmic energy to reveal your e-motions.

Soungou

The name is passed on by his father. Soungou (ZH/Fubu) is excited to find his place in the  nocturnal playground of music and celebration. By bringing different genres of latin and  afro influenced music together, he hopes to create spaces, he would have wished to exist in his early nightlife experience. New, vibrant biotopes for the queer and for the people of  colour, for the coloured queers! It’s about celebrating ourselves and caring for each other.

nGblk (she/her)
is an Afropean creative and digital artist, both inspired and motivated by a curative process. She composes narrative soundscapes by mixing tracks, samples and sonic artifacts from her music collection. Largely influenced by underground scenes, metaphysics and her African roots, she claims DJing as an art that contributes to the transmission of social and cultural heritage. Her set «nrwrlds» is a poetic tale, opening gates within the body and mind to access multiple realms. An intimate invitation to explore inner worlds.

KA-RABA (she/her)
is a Basel based DJ, member of the OKRA collective and a part of the Somatic Rituals Crew. Versatile in her sets, she aims to combine electronic music with afro-diasporic future sound aesthetics.

Roland Lauth / AuthessX
is a 3D artist, AR designer and graphic designer based in Berlin. After starting a career as a contemporary artist, Roland Lauth / AuthessX’s practice switched to a supporting role and has developed in dialogue with the fields of live art, music, fashion and queer cinema. With Andras 2020, Archipelagogo Club, House of Base, Di Petsa, Shu Lea Cheang, TU-Théâtre de l’Usine, Marta Martino, HKW, or Nelson Irsapoulé, Roland Lauth / AuthessX is building an aesthetic world made of excess, fragility, weakness and queer erotism in order to support and amplify minorised voices and to push forward the beauties in the margin.
