EXPERIMENTAL COMPOSITION OF AN ECSTATIC APPROACH TO DOCUMENTING. COMPOSITION THROUGH VARIOUS FORMATS AND MEDIUMS. Does a post-ecstatic medium exist?

THE HYPERBOLIC TIME CHAMBER OF THE ECSTATIC is a compilation of self-recorded solo-tapes and films made with trusted friends. The time chamber is composed by 3 sides which are shown in a loop. Each video is treated as a body. Expressing the ecstatic need to be creative. Resisting the capitalist urge to overcompensate, the artist goes through the process of going deeper with oneself. During lockdown they continued their research and documented the process through a series of videos and songs produced in isolation. As a dance/movement artist Titilayo has been interested in investigating post-modern dance as a method of shedding the ego to discover what lies deeper under the surface of aesthetics.

Surrending to the urge to be ecstatic, to be relentless in emotion but while also maintaining a stoic approach to performance and practice. THE HYPERBOLIC TIME CHAMBER OF THE ECSTATIC is also a memoir of the value of stillness and silence which follows shortly after ecstatic experiences. «How do I scream without distributing  the peace?. How do I release these emotions without giving too much of myself away?». Through THE HYPERBOLIC TIME CHAMBER OF THE ECSTATIC, Titilayo Adebayo composes with the archives to explore ways in which they can «play with the self» in an exhibition setting. Embracing the inner child and healing. The bodies of the videos and music create choreography – duets, trios – through time, space and the camera. With a friend occasionally being part of the process.

The movement in THE HYPERBOLIC TIME CHAMBER OF THE ECSTATIC is a trip through and within the heart and mind of the choreographer against the backdrop of self-isolation. It reflects a willingness to stay strong while also releasing and channelling multiple ideas and emotions through dance improvisation.

During the lockdown, dancer and performer Titilayo intensified their practice of performing by themself and with themself – and a camera. In BONE_21 they lay open this process to the audience. Their video-installation THE HYPERBOLIC TIME CHAMBER OF THE ECSTATIC will be on view continuously at Grosse Halle and will also be accessible online via our homepage during the time of the festival.

Titilayo Adebayo (they/them)
is a non-conforming performer, movement and dance artist in flux with emergence. Emerging from where? Emerging towards what? Painting in rhythm? Speaking without words? Who knows? Does it matter? They aim to bring a holistic approach to creating and experiencing performance and visual art. Making performance from a place of flow. Their practice lies in these principles.
